Can you plant a tree over a deceased dog?

Asked 2 years ago

We have to put our family dog down soon, and I have been trying to think of ways to say goodbye to her and honor her memory. A tree came to mind; then the kids can go there, give her some love, and not feel like she's completely gone. But then things like: "What if the tree doesn't grow" or "What if we plant it and a couple of days later it dies?" come to mind, and I start doubting this idea. Will a tree grow if you plant it over a dog? I'm in need of some reassurance.

It may be a good idea to plant a fast-growing sapling or an already established young tree and not a seed. As long as the tree is in healthy condition before planting, the products of decomposition will end up as very useful food for the tree. You could also have your dog cremated and bury the ashes with a tree planted on top.

You can plant a tree in memory of a pet, and you can plant it over the deceased dog. The decomposing process is not harmful to the tree. However, it is advised to use an already established sapling instead of a seed and choose a tree that is fast-growing.
